Market Minute: Previewing This Week’s Earnings

Another week, another swarm of earnings! With the VIX spiking and the market selling off, reactions to quarterly reports could be interesting. A few names to watch are Palantir (PLTR) and CSX (CSX) after the bell today, Uber (UBER), Yum! Brands (YUM), AirBNB (ABNB), Rivian (RIVN) tomorrow, and CVS (CVS) and Walt Disney (DIS) Wednesday. AirBNB, for example, has a implied move of $11 either way. Rivian has an $8 implied move ; after Tesla’s (TSLA) precipitous drop-off post-earnings, investors will be watching this E.V. competitor closely.

Putting aside earnings, the broader sell-off around the world should encourage traders to review their risk tolerances. Big names that have been leading the market are hurting, with Nvidia (NVDA) plummeting premarket, and per Bloomberg, on track for the “single largest market value destruction in stock market history” after a report that its new A.I. chips are delayed because of design flaws. Expectations, like prices, have been extremely high for the movers and shakers, and as uncertainty intensifies, they may not be able to stand up to the onslaught of fear.
